Dahlia, Mum, and Geranium cuttings are the perfect way to shorten your growth cycle and kickstart blooms. By transplanting a cutting, your plants will typically flower 1-2 weeks before plants you start out as tubers or seed.

*Sunny Meadows is not responsible for success of the plant once it leaves our farm. Growth of the plants are dependent on the growers care. For more specific information on your growing zone, please refer to the USDA Hardiness Zone Map.

Minimum Order

12 plant minimum or 4 packs of 3

The minimum order is 4 packs of cuttings. Each tray comes with 3 individual cuttings. With the minimum order, you will receive a total of 12 plants ready to plant.

The dimensions of each soil/rooting media cell are 1" X 1" X 2"

Shipping Details

Choose either April or May

Our team will ship orders once in April and once in May when we are free from any damaging frosts. At checkout, select your preferred ship month. If you'd like to receive cuttings in both April and May, please submit two separate orders.

If you're shopping for items in addition to your rooted cuttings, please place a separate order for all non-rooted cutting items. Other items, such as dried flowers, gear, or tubers, could damage the cuttings. If you place a combined order, we reserve the right to cancel your order or charge additional shipping to get everything to you safely.

Issues with Order

If your plant is damaged during shipping, please let us know within 48 hours of receiving the plants. You can send an email with your order number, pictures of the box, and pictures of the plants to sales@sunnymeadowsflowerfarm.com

Dahlia Cuttings

Full of volume, elegance, and vibrant colors, dahlias are the perfect addition to your flower rotation. Dahlias are the true "gift that keeps giving." After you enjoy a season of blooms, dig your tuber up to divide and use for your future planting seasons!

Steps for Successful Dahlia Transplanting:

Open your package immediately upon receiving it. Remove plastic packaging to encourage airflow and water your cuttings.
Allow your cuttings to sit and adjust to your climate for 2-3 days before planting. We recommend storing them on a flat surface (this could be a greenhouse or a cart in the basement).
You can plant your cuttings directly into the ground after your last frost in the spring. If you have frost in the forecast, transplant your cuttings into 4" pots with your favorite potting soil mix. While planting, be sure to completely cover the roots with soil.
After transplanting, water your plants thoroughly. During the first 1-2 weeks, water your plants frequently. *Bonus tip: Let your plants dry out to a level 2 out of 5 between waterings (if transplanted into pots) to encourage deeper root growth.

**Dahlia cuttings will produce some tubers in their first year and will need dug up and cared for as other tubers are in your zone. Those tubers planted in their second year will form large clumps as other tubers do, which is typically variety specific in their tuber performance.

Mum Cuttings

Chrysanthemums are the epitome of baking apple pie on a 54 degree day with leaves dancing in the wind. They are the perfect option to survive the cooler temperatures between September - November. Shop our cutting varieties to add autumnal tones to your seasonal plan.

Steps for Successful Mum Transplanting:

Open your package immediately upon receiving it. Remove plastic packaging to encourage airflow and water your cuttings.
Allow your cuttings to sit and adjust to your climate for 2-3 days before planting. We recommend storing them on a flat surface and close to a water source. This could be a greenhouse or a cart in the basement.
You can plant your cuttings directly into the ground after your last frost in the spring. If you have frost in the forecast, transplant your cuttings into 4" pots with your favorite potting soil mix. While planting, be sure to completely cover the roots with soil. **see planting notes below.
After transplanting, water your plants thoroughly. During the first 1-2 weeks, water your plants frequently. *Bonus tip: Let your plants dry out to a level 2 out of 5 between waterings (if transplanted into pots) to encourage deeper root growth.
Pinch your plants to two leaf sets until the week of July 4th to keep the plants more manageably sized. This will lead to having multiple stems coming from the base plant.
Be sure to support your mums with proper netting or staking as they grow. We go through our greenhouses every 2 weeks to check netting to add posts or raise the net as they grow to ensure they are properly supported for long, straight stem production.
If you wish to overwinter your mums, plant your cuttings in a temperature-controlled space that is protected from the elements. Or if you are overwintering stock plants, hold plants in a 4" to gallon size pot in a heated space to take next year's cuttings yourself.

**Sunny Meadows Flower Farm is in zone 6A (Columbus, Ohio). We plant our mums in our greenhouses during June for fall blooms peaking in mid-October to early November. In our zone, mums require being planted in covered space due to their late season bloom time. At SMFF, we plant them all in heated structures, although unheated may work, you will just need to be aware of condensation dripping onto the developing blooms.

Geranium Cuttings

Scented Geranium is a great foliage option for beginner gardeners and advanced farmers alike. A productive plant with a powerful fragrance, geranium is perfect for bouquets and arrangements! Shop from our three varieties of scented geranium, each unique in shape and smell: citronella, lemon rose, and pink champagne (a Sunny Meadows Exclusive variety). Order the citronella variety if you're on the hunt for a natural mosquito repellent.
